My favorite Fall TV Show Premier was by far Dexter. This is because the show finally went away from the sort of hokey super hero versus super villain type plots and focused more on the lead character, Dexter, and his own homicidal tendencies. They also killed off the most annoying character on the show, his wife Rita, and left some uncertainty as to who is to blame for her death. While the addition of Doakes 2.0, also known as Quinn, continues to be banal, and the fact that Dexter's sister will sleep with the neighbor's dog if it barked at her funny is a slap against feminists everywhere, I still find the show to be incredibly engaging simply because the premier chose this new direction for its protagonist.
What awaits us this season we do not know, although it is likely Dexter will get away with his serial killing again, lest the show disappear altogether. Nevertheless, it does seem that the writers are making a conscious effort to remind us that Dexter is no saint, that he is a man who has a lust for blood, especially when that blood is pouring out of someone's open wound, albeit he also has a kinder side, as he removes his victims from this world with relative haste. In any case, it should be a fun season. Dexter is available only on Showtime on satellite TV from www.directstartv.com/localchannels/.
