mumford & sons ~ new music

Mumford & Sons have sold over 300,000 copies of their debut album "Sigh No More" and are already at work on their sophomore album.

"We want to get the second album recorded this year, and we're hoping to have gigged the record in before going to the studio," says keyboardist-accordionist Ben Lovett.

The band are planning to hit the studio later this year with Markus Dravs, the producer of "Sigh No More." "I think we could perhaps record it ourselves, but we'd get lost in our own sorts," Lovett says. "He's really good at bringing a little bit of structure and order to very disorganized minds."

One of Lovett's favorite new songs, "Lover of the Light," is a dynamic, rocking song with lead singer Marcus Mumford on drums. "Some people have heard it, we've been playing it for about eight months now," Lovett says. "I think that should go all the way through the next record, but ultimately we're trying to write better and better songs, and songs that are truer to ourselves. And if we end up writing 10 to 15 songs better than that one, it will just have to sit on the B Side of the tape somewhere."

The band was especially productive in January when they reconvened in Nashville after a holiday break.  "We wrote six tracks in a week when we there on a farm," Lovett says. "We just played every day and shared with each other the different songs we'd been writing on our time away from each other. It was quite an interesting way to catch up -- you know, songs were the best way we could express ourselves when we hadn't been with each other. It was like, 'Ah, what have you been up to?' and then it's like you hear their song as an anecdote."

keane ~ is it any wonder?

Tim Rice-Oxley has said that it is unlikely he will fight with Tom Chaplin over lead singing duties in Keane.

The songwriter and pianist already sings backing vocals in the band but both he and bassist Jesse Quin perform lead vocals on their Mt. Desolation project.

Mt. Desolation is an alt-country band from England. It is the side project of Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin, members of the rock band Keane. Their self-titled debut album was released on 18 October 18 2010. The band's line-up is extensive, including members of Keane, Noah & The Whale, The Killers, The Long Winters, The Staves, Mumford & Sons. The core of the band, though, is composed of front men Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin, both members of Keane.

When asked if the experience could lead him to push for a lead singing role on Keane's next record, Rice-Oxley said "I doubt it. Tom's such a great singer that it's just a pleasure to listen to him. He certainly makes it look so easy!

"I think I feel more confident about maybe singing the odd song. I do a lot of backing vocals already but I feel more confident about doing that now and pulling my weight a bit more in the vocal department."

Asked if he would ever work with founding Keane guitarist Dominic Scott - who left the band in 2001 - again, Rice-Oxley said "We're still in touch, but I've not seen him for a few months. He's got his own band called Roundstone who are actually really, really good and I think they're starting to do things which is great.

"It's weird those things. It's tempting to do stuff together - I hope we do get a chance to do stuff together again. We'll know when the time is right."

mumford and sons ~ little lion man

Mumford & Sons is a folk rock band. The band is made up of Marcus Mumford (vocals, guitar, drums, mandolin), "Country" Winston Marshall (vocals, banjo, dobro), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, accordion), and Ted Dwane (vocals, double bass). Although the band members have claims on certain instruments, the members switch instruments during live shows according to convenience, for they each play a variety of instruments. The band formed in late 2007, rising out of London's folk scene.

The band's debut album, Sigh No More, was released in the United Kingdom in October 2009, and February 2010 in the United States.
