panic! at the disco comfortable as duo
Two heads are better than four for Panic! at the Disco's Brendon Urie.
Nearly two years after his rock band downsized from a quartet to a duo -- a shift that would have derailed many bands -- the frontman insists it was the best move they could have made.
"Definitely," says the 23-year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist. "I'm glad we did it. We wanted to do different things. If we had stayed together and tried to force a record out now, we probably wouldn't be happy with it. And we probably would have broken up anyway."
"Instead, it's kind of a new start for us. There are fewer options to work through, fewer cooks in the kitchen. Now it's whatever the two of us decide."
Shortly after parting ways with guitarist songwriter Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker in 2009, Urie and drummer Spencer Smith decided a) to retain their name; b) remain a duo; c) reclaim the exclamation point that vanished from their name between their first two albums.
More importantly, they've also reconnected with their musical heritage on their new cd Vices & Virtues, out 22 March 2011, balancing the rock energy of their 2005 debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out with the dramatic retro-pop of 2008's sophomore CD Pretty. Odd.

bret micheals sues tony awards
Bret Michaels has filed a lawsuit against Tony Award Productions and CBS for his stage accident at the 2009 awards, where the he hit his head against a stage prop that descended from the ceiling.
Bret blamed producers for not instructing him on how to safely exit the stage after his performance was over.
In the suit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Michaels claimed he had to be hospitalized for a broken nose and a cut lip.
Six months after the awards, the singer nearly died from a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage and the rocker insists it was no coincidence.
"One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards," he said.
Michaels said producers have "failed and refused" to remedy the situation and even blamed him for the accident at the Tony Awards, claiming he "missed his mark."
Michaels is suing for unspecified damages.

courtney love and kurt cobain's ashes
A music journalist has revealed that Courtney Love wanted to snort Kurt Cobain's ashes.
According to writer Neil Strauss, the 'Hole' singer suggested they inhale her dead husband's remains during a bizarre interview.
"She was serious when she made the suggestion. She actually said she would offer his ashes to me first to snort and then said she would like them," the Daily Telegraph quoted Strauss as telling RadarOnline.com.
Courtney's strange request is revealed in Strauss' tell-all book 'Everyone Loves You When You Are Dead' which also includes details of conversations he's had with stars including Lady Gaga, Madonna and Britney Spears.
In the book, Neil writes of how the blonde rocker - who was married to Nirvana frontman Kurt until his death in 1994 - 'introduced' him to her husband before confessing she desired to snort his ashes.
He wrote: "She walks to a dresser, pulls open a drawer, and removes a square-shaped tin. She removes the lid, revealing a plastic bag full of white ashes. A faint smell of jasmine emanates from the tin.
"LOVE: Too bad you don't do coke. Otherwise I'd suggest taking a metal straw to it.
"STRAUSS: Yeah, I don't think that would be the right thing to do.
"LOVE: I'd like to though."

mumford & sons ~ new music
Mumford & Sons have sold over 300,000 copies of their debut album "Sigh No More" and are already at work on their sophomore album.
"We want to get the second album recorded this year, and we're hoping to have gigged the record in before going to the studio," says keyboardist-accordionist Ben Lovett.
The band are planning to hit the studio later this year with Markus Dravs, the producer of "Sigh No More." "I think we could perhaps record it ourselves, but we'd get lost in our own sorts," Lovett says. "He's really good at bringing a little bit of structure and order to very disorganized minds."
One of Lovett's favorite new songs, "Lover of the Light," is a dynamic, rocking song with lead singer Marcus Mumford on drums. "Some people have heard it, we've been playing it for about eight months now," Lovett says. "I think that should go all the way through the next record, but ultimately we're trying to write better and better songs, and songs that are truer to ourselves. And if we end up writing 10 to 15 songs better than that one, it will just have to sit on the B Side of the tape somewhere."

"We just played every day and shared with each other the different songs we'd been writing on our time away from each other. It was quite an interesting way to catch up -- you know, songs were the best way we could express ourselves when we hadn't been with each other. It was like, 'Ah, what have you been up to?' and then it's like you hear their song as an anecdote."

gwyneth's gone country
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly discussing a music deal with Warner Music - owned label Atlantic Records to produce a country album following her starring role in 'Country Strong'.
Paltrow, 38, who is married to Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, which is signed to EMI, recently showed off her singing skills on 'Glee', at the Country Music Awards, at the Grammys, and at the Oscars.
"Many labels would be reluctant to give a deal to a star whose first priority is film, but in recent weeks there have been discussions with Atlantic.
"Gwyneth is a very different name for Atlantic, and one who brings a lot of recognition," the source stated.

sum 41 shows postponed
Sum 41 vocalist Deryck Whibley has been hospitalized with "severe pneumonia" while on tour in Australia. The band has been forced to postpone the remaining dates on their Australian tour:
We regret to inform everyone that we have had to cancel a few shows due to Deryck Whibley being hospitalised with severe pneumonia. Deryck is currently being treated in a Sydney hospital. Doctors are doing their best to beat the pneumonia and Deryck will remain in Sydney until he has recovered. As soon as Deryck is out of the hospital the band will return back to the stage performing their 'Screaming Bloody Murder' world tour with the usual high energy kick ass shows.
Last year, the band was also forced to cancel tour dates due to an injury suffered by Whibley. In that case, it involved an "unprovoked incident" and a back injury. The group will release Screaming Bloody Murder on 29 March 2011.

Thrice is an American rock band from Irvine, California. The group was founded by guitarist/vocalist Dustin Kensrue and guitarist Teppei Teranishi while they were in high school.
Early in their career, the band was known for fast, hard music based in heavily distorted guitars, prominent lead guitar lines, and frequent changes in complex time signatures. This style is exemplified on their second album, The Illusion of Safety (2002) and their third album The Artist in the Ambulance (2003). Their fourth album Vheissu (2005) made significant changes by incorporating electronic beats and keyboards. Their fifth effort was a quadruple album entitled The Alchemy Index (2007/2008), released as two sets of two CDs that together make a 4-part, 24-song cycle. Each of the four 6-song EPs of the Alchemy Index features significantly different styles, based on different aspects of the band's musical aesthetic which reflect the elemental themes of fire, water, air and earth, both lyrically and musically. The band's sixth album, entitled Beggars, was released on 11 August 2009.
Each album released by Thrice has had a portion of its sales proceeds donated to a new charitable organization.

christina aguilera drunk in public
Singer Christina Aguilera was taken into custody for being drunk in public, police said, and spent several hours sobering up at a West Hollywood police station before being released.
Aguilera, 30, was a passenger in a car being driven by her boyfriend in the Los Angeles-area community of West Hollywood when police pulled him over for driving erratically at about 3 a.m. pst Tuesday, 1 March 2011.
Matthew Rutler was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and Aguilera was "extremely intoxicated".
The "Beautiful" singer was taken into custody because she was deemed unable to take care of herself. She was released about four hours later, but police said she was unlikely to be prosecuted for public intoxication.
Aguilera, a former Disney child performer, filed for divorce in October to end her five-year marriage to music executive Jordan Bratman.
