cake looking for a marching band
Cake is joining forces with the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) for "The Federal Funding March," a nationwide contest among high school and college marching bands. Participating schools are required to submit a video of their marching band performing CAKE’s song “The Federal Funding March,” a track off their latest album Showroom of Compassion. CAKE will provide a full marching band arrangement and charts of the song to the USSBA. The winning school, chosen for the creativity and quality of their performance, will win an opportunity
to participate and perform in the official music video for “Federal Funding,” which would be filmed later this year in the winning school’s hometown. Further details, including additional prizing, will be announced at a later date.
The non-profit USSBA and its parent company, Youth Education in Arts, provide a platform for talented high school students to participate in competitive events around the country. With a network of over 800 high schools, USSBA’s partnership with CAKE will continue to bring awareness to the importance of music education.
“The Federal Funding March” is based on CAKE trumpet player Vincent DiFiore’s instrumental arrangement. He explains, “With all the brass, the album track for ‘Federal Funding’ already sounded like it was a great arrangement for a marching band. It has strong syncopation and a bouncy bottom-end. For the “Federal Funding March,” the electric guitar, electric bass, and drum kit were omitted. In their place are saxophones, low brass, flutes, and tenor drums. It is our hope that band directors everywhere will find this arrangement appealing for its rhythmic groove, melodic sensibility, and thematic timeliness.”
“The USSBA is excited about exploring this unique collaborative partnership with CAKE,” says Sean King, Director of Marketing for Youth Education in the Arts and the US Scholastic Band Association. “Music is a universal language, whether on stage, in the club or on the football field and we want to reach each of these venues to promote music advocacy through the ‘Federal Funding March’ Contest. Our relationship with CAKE exposes us to a passionate new audience of CAKE fans, while the contest engages students from high school and college marching bands that participate in our programs in a groundbreaking way. We couldn't be more energized with the kick-off of this campaign.”
CAKE’s recent album, Showroom of Compassion, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 upon its release earlier this year. The album continues to receive acclaim with recent appearances on NPR’s “All Things Considered” as well as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lopez Tonight, Conan, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon and more.

lady gaga gives birth to liquid gold!
Lady Gaga, who is known for her outrageous performances, recently staged a mock birth during a show on Saturday Night Live.
After a very energetic performance and just as her song was ending, her dancers surrounded her, and after she emerged, she had a huge bump around her midriff.
She immediately headed from a mock hospital bed to the side of the stage where her dancers helped into a pair of stirrups, and she subsequently "gave birth" to a gold liquid.
Gaga had performed the mock birth during a rendition of the title track from her new album, 'Born This Way'.
Ahahahaha!!! Funny stuff! Watch the video below!

pete doherty sent to jail
The indie rock musician Pete Doherty was sent to jailed for six months after being filmed taking crack cocaine by documentary-maker Robyn Whitehead the day before she died of heroin poisoning.
The Babyshambles singer, who was due to play a Glasgow gig Friday was instead beginning his third prison term. A judge said that he had an "appalling record" of committing offences, having made 13 other court appearances. Doherty, 32, had pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.
Describing the circumstances as "tragic", Judge David Radford at Snaresbrook crown court said police became aware of the footage taken by Whitehead, 27, following her "sad death".
Robyn had spent the last 10 days of her life making a film about Doherty, the court heard.
Footage showed the former Libertines singer using a knife to cut from a "white block" before placing the substance in a crack pipe in the Hackney flat of his friend Peter Wolfe, on 23 January last year, the court heard.
The previous day Wolfe was filmed smoking from the same pipe before passing it to Whitehead and helping her to light it. She was found dead in Wolfe's flat on 24 January.
Wolfe pleaded guilty to two counts of cocaine possession and one of supplying cocaine to Whitehead. He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
Sentencing, the judge said he had made it "abundantly clear" that Whitehead's death was not caused by that supply of crack cocaine. "Unhappily and tragically that woman died from the poisoning of another illegal class A drug which she had chosen to take," he said. "The grief and loss to her family and friends caused by her death cannot, and should not, be sought in any way to be expiated by the sentence I pass today."
Prosecutor Alison Morgan said that paramedics were called to the east London flat at 8pm on 24 January. But despite attempts to resuscitate Whitehead, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Toxicology reports found she had a combination of cocaine and heroin in her body. Police seized a crack pipe and other drug paraphernalia, along with video footage Whitehead had taken.
Morgan said the drugs offences for which the two men had been charged had been committed between 22 and 24 January, but that the crack cocaine that Wolfe had supplied to Whitehead could not have been to blame for her death.
Ratliff said Doherty, who has recently been touring as a solo artist, was busier than ever with his music career, starring in a film, and designing his own clothing. He added that were he to be jailed, the star would be letting down countless people he works with.
Addressing Doherty, the judge said: "There is no doubt you are a talented and successful musician." But he said Doherty should receive an "appropriate penalty", regardless of his career.
Doherty has previously said that he was "shocked and saddened" by Whitehead's death. Elaine Stapleton, defending Wolfe, said he was "genuinely remorseful", was currently on methadone and had moved to Maidstone, Kent, in a bid to get over his drug addiction.

michael stripe and kurt cobain
'R.E.M' singer Michael Stipe has at last denied the age-old speculation of his sexual relations with Kurt Cobain in the 90's.
Stipe put an end to the rumor. "Let's set the record straight on Page Six. Kurt was a really sweet man, and we never had sex. All right? There's your exclusive," The New York Post quoted the singer as saying.

sleigh bells to release new music in 2012
Sleigh Bells have said they will start work on their second album in June and it will be ready for release in early 2012.
The duo, released their debut album 'Treats' in May 2010,.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, guitarist Derek Miller said: "All I can think about is the next record, more often than not I'm working on new stuff."
He continued: "We start on June 25, we've got a bunch of demos already and we'll look to put it out early 2012. There was material left over from 'Treats', we didn't even get to really finish it, we just had to leave. We're not going to make that mistake again.”
Miller said he believed the duo's new material differs from their debut as being less like "party music" and more "emotionally heavy."
Singer Alexis Krauss said that the new LP would be "immense" and that the band were going to keep their trademark loudness.
She added: "Some of Derek's demos sound immense to me, it sounds really huge."

google music service
Google Inc. unveiled its long-planned music service 10 May 2011, but it will likely need deals with the recording industry to reach its full potential.
Called "Music Beta by Google," the service lets users store their tunes remotely and access them from any compatible device, including mobile phones, tablets and computers. So far, it does not offer music downloads or song sales and it doesn't let people listen to music they haven't physically uploaded.
The service will be available by invitation only, free of charge while it is being tested. Google announced the new service at its yearly conference for software developers in San Francisco. It did not say whether, or how much, it plans to charge eventually.
Google's music service comes just six weeks after Amazon.com Inc. announced a similar offering. The online retailer's service also lets users play songs they have uploaded to the cloud on their computer or on a smartphone that runs Google's Android. Apple Inc. is also believed to be working on a similar service.
A big hurdle has been getting deals with major record labels. Google did not mention any agreements on 10 May, though the company has been in discussions with record labels over licensing deals.
Google said users will be able to upload up to 20,000 songs to "the cloud" - tech speak for storing data on remote servers and then accessing them through an Internet connection. Users can create playlists manually, or based on a particular song.
Among the services that Music Beta does not offer is "de-duplication," which lets users skip uploading their own copies to the cloud if there is an identical file already available. Multiple users could stream music from a single file, and users with large music collections could save a lot of time waiting for perhaps thousands of songs to upload.

megadeth and anthrax members form red lamb
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and has joined forces with ex-Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz to form a new band called Red Lamb.
The two musicians originally worked on material together while Spitz was in former band Deuxmonkey.
Late last year, Mustaine revealed that he had heard Spitz working on a side-project and asked if he could be involved.
"I rolled up my sleeves and I completely dedicated myself to Danny's record, working tirelessly in my studio on this record with him," says Mustaine. "And it's that good."
"It's like a cross between, say, Disturbed, Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine."
"[There are] Little bit of some smatterings of Anthrax because of the speed stuff, but it's much more modern and much more heavy sounding."

pete wentz band update
Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz will release the debut album from his new band Black Cards this summer.
Wentz formed the band in 2010 with singer Bebe Rexha following the announcement of Fall Out Boy's indefinite hiatus in 2009.
"I think people expect us to ride in on Fall Out Boy's coattails but it's so different. It's like the dude in the pop punk band goes and makes a pop album that you're supposed to, like, smoke wacky tobacckey on the beach to, you know? Weird! I never planned on doing that in my entire life."
In a previous interview with MTV, the bassist revealed that the debut album will feature guest performances from Gym Class Heroes's Travis McCoy, Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn and Shaggy.
